What is the penalty for giving assistance to suicide if the suicide itself is not consummated?

If the act of assistance to suicide is rendered, but the suicide is ultimately not consummated, the penalty is significantly reduced (Article 253, Revised Penal Code). In this specific instance, the person who offered assistance shall be imposed the penalty of arresto mayor in its medium and maximum periods. This mitigated punishment reflects the fact that the ultimate criminal result—death—did not materialize.
