Does an employee have to engage in physical exertion for hours to be considered worked?

An employee does not need to engage in physical or mental exertion for hours to be compensable. According to Rule I, Book III of the Omnibus Rules Implementing the Labor Code of the Philippines, all hours an employee is required to give to the employer are considered hours worked. This principle applies regardless of whether the time is spent in productive labor. The key factor is that the employee’s time is under the control or requirement of the employer. 15-May-26
