Who owns the copyright in an “audiovisual work”?
Ownership is shared among the producer, scenario author, composer, film director, and author of the work adapted. Section 178.5 Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines notes that the producer usually exercises the copyright for exhibition. This exercise is subject to stipulations among the various creators. However, composers retain the right to collect license fees for musical compositions within the work. “178.5. In the case of audiovisual work, the copyright shall belong to the producer, the author of the scenario, the composer of the music, the film director, and the author of the work so adapted.
