Who is guilty of Parricide and what is the range of penalty imposed?

Any person who kills their father, mother, or child, whether legitimate or illegitimate, is guilty of Parricide (Article 246, Revised Penal Code). The crime also covers the killing of any of one’s ascendants, descendants, or the perpetrator’s spouse. Parricide is severely punished by the penalty of reclusion perpetua to death. The relationship between the offender and the victim is the essential qualifying element of this crime against persons.
