Who appoints the Ombudsman and his Deputies, and how are the nominees selected?
The Ombudsman and his Deputies are appointed directly by the President of the Philippines. The President must choose from a list of at least six nominees prepared by the Judicial and Bar Council. For every subsequent vacancy, the choice must be made from a list of three nominees. The mechanism for this appointment process is established in Article XI, Section 9, 1987 Philippine Constitution. “SECTION 9. The Ombudsman and his Deputies shall be appointed by the President from a list of at least six nominees prepared by the Judicial and Bar Council, and from a list of three nominees for every vacancy thereafter.” 06-Mar-26About Nicolas and De Vega Law Offices
