When are acrobats, circus managers, or similar professionals guilty of exploiting minors who are not their descendants?

Acrobats, gymnasts, rope-walkers, wild-animal tamers, circus managers, or persons in similar callings are guilty if they employ children under sixteen years of age in exhibitions of these kinds (Article 278, Revised Penal Code). The crime only applies if the children employed are not the employee’s own children or descendants. If the children are their own descendants, they are only criminally liable if the child is under twelve years of age.
