What must a non?resident patent applicant do regarding representation in the Philippines?

A non?resident applicant is required to appoint a local representative. Section 33, Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, mandates that an applicant who is not a resident must appoint and maintain a resident agent or representative in the Philippines to receive notices or process in judicial or administrative procedures relating to the application or patent. This ensures effective communication and valid service of process within the jurisdiction. Without such an agent, enforcement and prosecution of rights may be severely impaired.   21-Dec-25
