What is the principal function of the Judicial and Bar Council?

The Judicial and Bar Council serves as a critical screening committee for the judicial branch. Its principal function is to recommend appointees to the Judiciary, ensuring that only qualified candidates are considered by the President. Additionally, the Council may exercise such other functions and duties as the Supreme Court may assign to it over time. This vital function is outlined in Article VIII Section 8 1987 Philippine Constitution. “(5) The Council shall have the principal function of recommending appointees to the Judiciary. It may exercise such other functions and duties as the Supreme Court may assign to it.” 06-Mar-26
