What is the new designation of the existing Tanodbayan under the 1987 Constitution?
Under the 1987 Constitution, the existing Tanodbayan is hereafter known as the Office of the Special Prosecutor. This office continues to function and exercise its powers as provided by law. However, it no longer exercises the specific powers conferred exclusively upon the newly created Office of the Ombudsman. This transition of the former Tanodbayan’s identity is found in Article XI, Section 7, 1987 Philippine Constitution. “SECTION 7. The existing Tanodbayan shall hereafter be known as the Office of the Special Prosecutor. It shall continue to function and exercise its powers as now or hereafter may be provided by law, except those conferred on the Office of the Ombudsman created under this Constitution.” 06-Mar-26About Nicolas and De Vega Law Offices
