What does the Office examine during the registration process for designs?

The Office examines whether the industrial design or layout-design meets the legal definitions and substantive conditions for protection. According to Section 116 Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, this includes checking for novelty and ornamentality in designs. For layout-designs, the examination focuses on the requirement of originality. If the conditions are fulfilled, the Office orders the registration and issues a certificate.   “116.4.
