What are the age and literacy requirements for a presidential candidate?

  A candidate for the presidency must meet a specific age threshold to ensure maturity in leadership. The individual must be at least forty years of age on the day the election is held. Additionally, the candidate must possess the basic educational ability to read and write. These qualifications are meant to guarantee that the President can effectively perform their official duties. Article VII Section 2 1987 Philippine Constitution   “SECTION 2. No person may be elected President unless he is a natural-born citizen of the Philippines, a registered voter, able to read and write, at least forty years of age on the day of the election, and a resident of the Philippines for at least ten years immediately preceding such election.”   03-Feb-26
