Is a marriage license necessary if the residence of either party is in a remote place?

People permanently living in highly inaccessible areas are practically granted an exemption from the marriage license requirement. If the residence of either party is so located that there is entirely no means of transportation to appear personally, an exemption applies. The marriage may be completely solemnized without the strict necessity of a marriage license. This completely ensures logistical difficulties do not prevent marriage, as stated in Article 28 Family Code of the Philippines. “Art. 28. If the residence of either party is so located that there is no means of transportation to enable such party to appear personally before the local civil registrar, the marriage may be solemnized without the necessity of a marriage license.” 31-Jul-26
