How is the value of infringing materials used in sentencing?

  The court looks at the value of the infringing materials produced when determining criminal penalties. This value influences both the length of imprisonment and the amount of the fine. Higher values typically lead to more severe sentences within the prescribed ranges. This factor is mandated in Section 217.2 Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.   “217.2.
