How does the law define “gynecological disorders” for purposes of special leave for women?

Gynecological disorders are defined as disorders that would require surgical procedures, including but not limited to dilatation and curettage. These disorders involve female reproductive organs such as the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, breast, adnexa, and pelvic floor. Under Republic Act No. 9710 and its implementing guidelines, the definition also specifically includes procedures like hysterectomy, ovariectomy, and mastectomy. A competent physician must certify these conditions to validate the medical necessity of the surgery. 17-May-26
