How does a defect in any of the essential requisites affect the marriage?

A defect in the essential requisites does not immediately make the marriage completely void. Instead, a defect in any of the essential requisites shall simply render the marriage voidable. This strictly means the marriage remains legally valid until it is formally annulled by a competent court.
