Can the Office of the Ombudsman disclose the details of its ongoing investigations to the public?
The Office of the Ombudsman is permitted to publicize matters covered by its investigations. However, this power to disclose information is not absolute and must only be exercised when circumstances so warrant. Additionally, the Ombudsman is constitutionally required to act with due prudence when making such public disclosures. The power and limitation regarding the publication of investigations is found in Article XI, Section 13, 1987 Philippine Constitution. “(6) Publicize matters covered by its investigation when circumstances so warrant and with due prudence.” 06-Mar-26About Nicolas and De Vega Law Offices
