Can the Constitutional Commissions perform functions other than those provided in the Constitution?

The duties of the Constitutional Commissions are not strictly limited to the constitutional text. They are mandated to perform such other functions as the legislature may deem necessary and proper. This allows the government to adapt by assigning additional responsibilities through new legislation. This flexibility for statutory expansion of their duties is found in Article IX, A, Section 8 1987 Philippine Constitution. “SECTION 8. Each Commission shall perform such other functions as may be provided by law.” 06-Mar-26
