Can a patent owner transfer their rights to someone else?

Patent owners have the inherent right to assign their patent to another party. They may also transfer the patent through succession to their heirs. Additionally, owners are permitted to conclude licensing contracts for the exploitation of the invention. These transferability rights are recognized under Section 71 Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.   “71.2. Patent owners shall also have the right to assign, or transfer by succession the patent, and to conclude licensing contracts for the same.”   January 3, 2026
