Are short rest periods or coffee breaks compensable?

Short rest periods or coffee breaks are legally considered as compensable working time. This specific provision is found in Rule I, Book III of the Omnibus Rules Implementing the Labor Code of the Philippines. The rule applies to breaks running from five to twenty minutes in duration. Employers are not allowed to deduct this time from the employee’s overall daily wage. 15-May-26
