Are airplane pilots allowed to solemnize marriages in flight?

Airplane pilots are granted the legal authority to solemnize marriages in exceptional situations. They can officiate a marriage in articulo mortis involving passengers or members of their crew. This rule is defined under Article 31 Family Code of the Philippines. The solemnization is valid whether it occurs in flight or during stopovers. “Art. 31. A marriage in articulo mortis between passengers or crew members may also be solemnized by a ship captain or by an airplane pilot not only while the ship is at sea or the plane is in flight, but also during stopovers at ports of call.” 31-Jul-26
