Who owns a commissioned invention under Philippine patent law?

For inventions created pursuant to a commission, ownership is reversed from the default inventor‑based rule. Section 30.1, Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, provides that the person who commissions the work shall own the patent, unless the contract states otherwise. This recognizes that the commissioning party typically funds and directs the inventive effort. Parties, however, remain free to allocate patent rights differently by explicit contractual provision.   20-Dec-25
