Who is qualified to be appointed as a resident agent for a foreign corporation?

A resident agent may be either an individual residing in the Philippines or a domestic corporation lawfully transacting business in the Philippines (SEC. 144, Revised Corporation Code of the Philippines). An individual designated as a resident agent must meet personal standards, specifically being of good moral character and of sound financial standing. If a domestic corporation acts as the resident agent, it must also be of sound financial standing and must show proof that it is in good standing as certified by the SEC. This ensures the appointed agent is reliable and capable of accepting legal process on behalf of the foreign entity.
