What is the duration of protection for a registered utility model?

A utility model registration remains valid for a fixed period of seven years from the date the application was filed. This term is defined by Section 109 Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. Unlike trademarks or industrial designs, the law states there is no possibility of renewing this registration. Once the seven-year term expires, the utility model enters the public domain.   “109.3. A utility model registration shall expire, without any possibility of renewal, at the end of the seventh year after the date of the filing of the application.”   January 3, 2026
