What is the definition of “published works”?

Published works are those made available to the public with the consent of the authors through wire or wireless means. Section 171.7 Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines specifies that the public must be able to access these works individually. The availability of copies must satisfy the reasonable requirements of the public based on the nature of the work. This consent ensures the author maintains control over the first release of their creation.   “171.7. ‘Published works’ means works, which, with the consent of the authors, are made available to the public by wire or wireless means in such a way that members of the public may access these works from a place and time individually chosen by them: Provided, That availability of such copies has been such, as to satisfy the reasonable requirements of the public, having regard to the nature of the work;”   January 7, 2026
