What happens if a marriage is solemnized by a person without legal authority?
Marriages solemnized by an unauthorized person are generally considered void from the beginning. However, there is a notable exception based on the legal principle of good faith. As dictated by Article 35 Family Code of the Philippines, the marriage remains valid if either or both parties believed the officer had authority.
