What does the principle of data quality require regarding inaccurate data?

The fundamental principle of data quality strictly mandates that personal data should be perfectly accurate and carefully kept up to date for its specified purpose. If any processed data is discovered to be inaccurate or functionally incomplete, it must be addressed immediately by the handling entity. The controller must decisively ensure the flawed data is rectified, supplemented, permanently destroyed, or its further processing actively restricted. These crucial actions to maintain optimal data integrity are legally required under Section 19 IRR. “c. Processing should ensure data quality. 1. Personal data should be accurate and where necessary for declared, specified and legitimate purpose, kept up to date. 2. Inaccurate or incomplete data must be rectified, supplemented, destroyed or their further processing restricted.” 22-May-26
