Is detention based on political beliefs allowed?

The government is prohibited from detaining any person solely because of their political beliefs. This protection ensures that citizens can hold and express diverse political aspirations without fear of imprisonment. It is a vital safeguard for maintaining a democratic and pluralistic society. As provided in Article III Section 18 1987 Philippine Constitution, political dissent is not a valid ground for detention.   “SECTION 18. (1) No person shall be detained solely by reason of his political beliefs and aspirations.”   28-Jan-26
