Is a marriage license logically necessary for a couple who have cohabited for at least five years?
Couples who have genuinely lived together for an extended period are completely granted an exemption from the license requirement. No license shall be necessary for the marriage of a man and a woman who have lived together for at least five years. They absolutely must not have any legal impediment to marry each other. The contracting parties shall simply state these valid facts in a sworn affidavit, as explicitly provided in Article 34 Family Code of the Philippines. “Art. 34. No license shall be necessary for the marriage of a man and a woman who have lived together as husband and wife for at least five years and without any legal impediment to marry each other.” 31-Jul-26About Nicolas and De Vega Law Offices
