How long does a member elected in a special election serve?

How long does a member elected in a special election serve?   A member who wins a special election does not start a new full term. Instead, the Senator or House Member serves only for the unexpired term of the predecessor. This maintains the established staggered or fixed election cycles. This rule is found in Article VI, Section 9 1987 Philippine Constitution.   “but the Senator or Member of the House of Representatives thus elected shall serve only for the unexpired term.”   01-Feb-26
