Can Congress members be financially interested in government contracts?

Can Congress members be financially interested in government contracts?   Members of Congress are prohibited from having a direct or indirect financial interest in any government contract. This rule also applies to franchises or special privileges granted by the government or its agencies. It aims to prevent self-dealing and the use of office for private gain. This restriction is detailed in Article VI, Section 14 1987 Philippine Constitution.   “Neither shall he, directly or indirectly, be interested financially in any contract with, or in any franchise or special privilege granted by the Government, or any subdivision, agency, or instrumentality thereof, including any government-owned or controlled corporation, or its subsidiary, during his term of office.”   01-Feb-26
