Are marriages between a grandfather and his granddaughter valid?

Marriages between direct ascendants and descendants are universally prohibited regardless of the specific degree of relationship. Such a union between a grandfather and a granddaughter is highly incestuous. As a result, it is expressly declared void from the beginning by Article 37 Family Code of the Philippines. This prohibition stands firm whether the familial relationship is legitimate or illegitimate in nature. “Art. 37. Marriages between the following are incestuous and void from the beginning, whether the relationship between the parties be legitimate or illegitimate: 1. Between ascendants and descendants of any degree;” 31-Jul-26
