Are computer programs and business methods patentable in the Philippines?

Computer programs and business methods as such are excluded from patent protection in the Philippines. Section 22.2, Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, specifically lists schemes, rules and methods of performing mental acts, playing games, doing business, and programs for computers as non-patentable inventions. This means a bare software algorithm or pure business scheme cannot be patented. Any protection for computer-related inventions must arise from a genuine technical solution that otherwise meets the requirements of patentability.   20-Dec-25
